Join the Virtual Run for Women and Support Women's Clinic at Ontario Shores
This past November, our team at Ontario Shores Foundation was thrilled to learn that we were chosen as one of the 18 charities across the country to participate in the 2020 Run for Women.
Being a part of this run was something we had been working on for a couple of years and when we got word that Whitby was going to be a host city, and that the Women’s Clinic at Ontario Shores was going to benefit, we were ecstatic.
We instantly saw people begin to register and an outpouring of love and support from our community and staff. But then the pandemic took hold and all the Run for Women charities who benefit from this run were stuck in limbo waiting to see how things would unfold.
Foundations and charitable organizations across the country have lost much of their funding due to the cancellation of events because of COVID-19. Events are a major revenue generator for charities, and when there are no sponsorships, ticket sales, auctions, and event donations coming in, it can have a major impact on which programs are funded. And support services for women have suffered exponentially.
Recent reports suggest because of the isolation we have been experiencing, the impact has been especially devastating on the lives and mental well-being of women. For many women, mood, anxiety, and psychosis disorders have been heightened during this uncertain and stressful time. Juggling work, kids and household; financial stress; an increase in gender-based violence; not having regular access to social services – are all resulting in a higher demand for women’s mental health supports.
This is why the Whitby Run for Women could not come at a more crucial time. All funds raised will go directly to the treatment of women's mental health issues and will allow Ontario Shores to enhance programming to care for more women than ever before.
And we need the support of our community to make it all happen.
Although we were looking forward to running and walking with everyone in person, The Run for Women events are now virtual and taking place simultaneously across Canada.
Between September 17-27, participants can complete their kilometres by running or walking whenever and wherever they like and then join us on September 27 for the Run for Women Day in Canada with a Live Stream Event (more details coming soon!).
Incredible rewards are also being offered to participants including: 100% ($40) of new registration fees donated directly to the charity, a swag bag worth $100, the official UNSTOPPABLE Bracelet and T-Shirt, and some great fundraising incentives.
But these rewards do not compare to the mental health rewards the women patients at Ontario Shores will benefit from once funding is secure. We please ask that you explore more details of the run and consider supporting in any way that you can and visit OntarioShores.ca/FoundationEvents.
Whether it’s through registering for the Whitby run, by becoming a team captain, or through fundraising or donating to one our teams or runners, every little bit helps when it comes to supporting the mental health of our mothers, daughters, sisters and loved ones.
Please take care and stay safe.
