Volunteers Lend a Helping Hand and Heart

Hello and welcome to our inaugural Volunteer Services blog post!

Actually, this is my first blog post, ever. I do hope you enjoy our blog as I offer a bit of insight into our dynamic volunteer program and of course, our incredible volunteers who all support the common cause of discovery, recovery and hope.

Who are our volunteers?
We see a variety of people who want and need to volunteer. Some are young and just exploring their options. They might have heard about us because they live in the community, or from a volunteer fair. Many of our student volunteers are from the surrounding community which also includes the University of Toronto-Scarborough Campus (UTSC). We receive a tremendous response from UTSC students every year.

Many students find that volunteering at a mental health hospital gives them practical, hands-on experience in the subjects they are studying. Other volunteers are second career students or who have retired and now have time to give back to the community. Some volunteers have a family member who has used the services at Ontario Shores and want to express their appreciation for what the hospital offers. Whatever their reason, they all contribute in their own unique way.

What programs do we offer?
We offer a wide variety of programs for volunteers. Walking and talking with patients, tutoring, art, sports and music just to name a few. For more information, visit our website which includes volunteer testimonials. I guarantee you will be impressed by their experience here!

How can I volunteer?
If you are interested in volunteering, it’s quite simple. Check out our website www.ontarioshores.ca and email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or simply call us at 905-430-4055 ext. 6579.

I hope I have succeeded in shedding some light on what we do. Over the next several months, you will see wonderful examples of how volunteers actively share in the journey of recovery at Ontario Shores.
