Call it a Homecoming at this Year's Imagine Festival
It’s hard to believe the Imagine Festival is entering its 9th year.
What initially began as a film festival to bring people to Ontario Shores to showcase films with a mental health lens and reduce stigma has evolved since 2008.
That first event brought actor Joey ‘Pants’ Pantoliano (the Matrix, Sopranos) to Ontario Shores and was even featured on ET Canada. Since then, we have hosted musicians who have a personal connection, have had inspirational speakers presenting to students and much more.
After the great success with musicians coming to our lecture theatre, we saw the need to reach a larger and more external audience and this will be the 5th year we have held our signature event at the historic Regent Theatre in Oshawa.
We have had had a number of artists and celebrities visit and share their stories and music including, Chantal Kreviazuk, Raine Maida, Matt Good, Serena Ryder, Steven Page, Colin James, and Spirit of the West last year. That for me was a touching show as it marked one of the very last shows as lead singer John Mann’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s has made live shows and touring too much of a challenge. Each year has been magical and we have reached a new audience who might never attend a mental health presentation.
This year we are so thrilled to bring home a local talent that has skyrocketed to fame. The Stellas featuring Lennon & Maisy.
The husband and wife duo, born and raised in Oshawa, took their talents to Nashville and things have never been the same. After appearing on the CMT TV show “Can You Duet”, they recorded two albums that were released by Universal Canada. They have received numerous awards, including the 2013 CCMA and CMAO Group of the Year awards.
The award-winning artists have toured with Zac Brown, Johnny Reid and Terri Clark. Brad and Zac co-wrote ‘Let It Rain’ which was released on the Zac Brown Band 2013 EP and featured Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana) on drums.
The Stellas will be joined by their daughters Lennon & Maisy who rose to stardom on the hit TV series ‘Nashville’, playing Maddie and Daphne Conrad. The show was recently picked up by CMT for a fifth season, after four seasons on ABC. The pair has garnered an enormous fan base with over 730,000 YouTube subscribers and nearly 90 million views thanks in part to their viral video covers including ‘Call Your Girlfriend’ and ‘That’s What’s Up’. They have performed everywhere from The White House, Good Morning America, TODAY show, Radio Disney Awards to WE Day.
The show also features Juno Award winning Amelia Curran. She received her first Juno for Hunter, an album that solidified her reputation as an heir to Leonard Cohen’s songwriting throne. Her newest collection of songs, They Promised You Mercy was nominated for the 2015 Juno Award for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year.
There will also be a special presentation from The Dance Scene/The Music Scene.
We hope you come out and join us. Tickets will go on sale June 24, 2016 and are expected to go fast. To purchase visit www.regenttheatre.ca.
