Welcome to our 5th annual Mental Health Conference

We are ready and welcome you to the Ontario Shores’ 5th Annual Mental Health Conference!

With many months of planning now in the past, we are very pleased to welcome an impressive line-up of speakers and conference delegates to the 5th Annual Ontario Shores Mental Health Conference!  This year’s conference theme “Research, Recovery and Quality in Mental Health” bridges and celebrates the combined importance of both research and quality innovations in the delivery of mental health services that are attuned to client, caregiver and health system interests.  The conference will showcase new insights and approaches to leading-edge care in mental health.  The conference theme is aligned with mental health indicators as outlined by the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

The inaugural keynote address will be delivered by Mr. Nicholas Watters, Director Knowledge Exchange Centre, Mental Health Commission of Canada, who will speak to the conference theme and set the stage for the two day event.  In addition to numerous concurrent sessions and poster presentations related to the conference theme, the first day of the conference will also include a plenary session hosted by Dr. Arlene Astell, Ontario Shores Research Chair in the Community  Management of Dementia, and closing keynote by Dr. Sandy Simpson, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, both of whom will address research innovations in mental health care and recovery within specific populations (seniors and forensics, respectively).

On day two of the conference, we are very fortunate to feature Mr. Mark Henick, a widely-respected mental health advocate and TEDx speaker who will open the ‘Mental Health Quality Expo’ -  a showcase of mental health quality initiatives delivered through a variety of keynote addresses, concurrent sessions and poster presentations.  Ms. Lee Fairclough, Vice-President of Quality Improvement at Health Quality of Ontario will provide the afternoon keynote address focusing on improving quality of mental health care in Ontario,  and Dr. Ian Dawe, Physician-in-Chief at Ontario Shores will deliver the closing keynote which challenges health system change on the issue of suicide in healthcare.

The Ontario Shores Annual Conference is widely regarded for providing a welcoming and informative venue for mental health professionals, clients, family care-givers, students and academic researchers to collaborate, exchange ideas and advance leading practices. We are proud to offer an annual event that is collaborative and inclusive of all stakeholders who share common values and interests.

We are grateful for the support of our conference sponsors, Borden Ladner and Gervais, and Novartis. Registration remains open with some seats still available.  We have reserved seats for those wishing to register on site during each of the two days of the conference.  Parking is free of charge.  Registration, conference program, directions and lodging information are provided on our conference website at http://www.ontarioshores.ca/cms/One.aspx?portalId=169&pageId=27727
